Times are a Changin’…In politics
The Civil Rights Movement and Women’s Liberation movement had similar goals. Both movements had the overlying theme that to cultivate opportunities for their minority groups there needed to be equality. The influence of the Civil Rights Movement impacted the Women’s Movement to successfully create laws of equality for all ethnic women, choices, and activities in the home and the workplace.
Title XI (nine): An education amendment creating more opportunities for women in collegiate sports, medical schools, and law schools.
The Equal Pay Act of 1963 : A United States federal law amending the Fair Labor Standards Act, aimed at abolishing wage based on sex , signed by President John F. Kennedy. Prior, By 1960, there were approximately 25 million women in the workforce. While women again accounted for 37% of the total workforce, they only earned an average of 59 cents on the dollar compared to men.
Roe v. Wade: An unmarried women in Dallas was denied to right to have an abortion. Lawyer Waddington (later nicknamed Roe in case) argued the case before the supreme court, therefore the win declared the legalization of abortions, during the first three months. This decision belongs between the woman and doctor not the government.
